A BIT ABOUT ME

I started Lux By Lisa in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. Encouraged to 'give it a go' by my daughter, it began as a distraction to keep me occupied and help me with my struggling mental health during lockdown. I had to occupy myself and having a distraction was a great help.

So...where do I start making candles?

I hit the internet and watched A LOT of videos and blogs about candle making, and the endless varieties which you can produce. One thing I was passionate about was to ensure was that my creations were natural, cruelty-free, non-toxic and environmentally friendly, unlike some mass produced ones available on the market.

I began with a couple of fragrances (suggested by my daughters and their favourite perfumes), and I researched only highly reputable & specialist candle making suppliers for my ingredients, ensuring that their supplies and ingredients matched my ethos. I decided to use 100% soy wax which is natural, vegan, clean burning and has a beautiful natural colour when hardened.

Next came a lot of testing and experimenting (and the odd spillage -  the dog smelt like 'Alien' for weeks despite being bathed daily) and I used this time to learn and develop my skills on the road to creating my perfect candle. I also experimented with natural dyes to colour the candles, but decided against this as the natural colour of soy wax is perfect on it own.

Finally, I plucked up the courage to share my candles with friends and family, and the feedback was amazing!

My small kitchen had become my mini candle factory!

I am still experimenting and constantly testing out new ideas and fragrances. I have a few favourites which stay on the fragrance menu, but I like to try new aromas, and welcome suggestions from my friends and customers.

It still amazes me that a single fragrance can transport you to a specific moment in time, or induce memories that had been long forgotten. Having a fragrance fill a room creates such a feeling of wellness and happiness.

To date I have supplied over 1,000 wax products, and I am so glad that I did decide to 'give it a go!'.

I want to say a massive thank you to my beautiful girls, for giving me the inspiration and confidence to try something new, and thank you to my hubby who has to put up with falling over my boxes of supplies which are randomly placed all over the house...hahaha.

I hope you love my candles and wax melts, and I know that they will bring you hours of scented bliss.

Stay safe,

Lisa x
